Ingredients:
- 3 cups (450g) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3 cups (450g) Bartlett pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup (100g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
- 1 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp (1g) salt
- 1 cup (90g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (90g) old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/2 tsp (1g) salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples and pears with lemon juice, 1/2 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp salt. Transfer the mixture into a 9x9 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, oats, 1 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp salt.
- Add the chilled, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter or fork to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized lumps remaining.
- Scatter the topping evenly over the fruit without pressing it down to maintain an airy texture.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the fruit juices are bubbling thicky around the edges and the topping is a deep mahogany gold.
